Nourishing, empowering doula support for the fourth trimester

What is a postpartum doula?

Postpartum doulas provide new parents and families with physical, informational, and emotional support in the early days and weeks after birth (the postpartum period, or the “fourth trimester”).

Although I am a licensed RN, when working with you as your doula I will be providing you with non-medical support. But you get to benefit from the expertise I have developed through my nursing career on the postpartum body and newborn care. I work with families from birth through approximately the 12th postpartum week.

My doula care includes:

• hands on physical support to promote comfort and healing

• information on and assistance with postpartum self care and newborn care

• basic breastfeeding and pumping support*

• assistance with newborn care: diapering, soothing, bathing, burping, cuddling so you can get a shower or nap, etc

• Support with formula/bottle prep and feeding

• light housekeeping, tidying, and laundry

• promoting rest, hydration, and nourishment

• simple meal and snack prep

• running simple local errands

• help with the many unglamorous but important tasks that abound during the postpartum time (preparing a sitz bath, washing pump parts and bottles, changing your pads, cloth diaper laundry, etc)

• Education and assistance with babywearing (I have several styles of carriers you can try)

• Education and assistance with cloth diapers

• Assistance with other children

• Care after stillbirth/pregnancy loss/infant loss

• Answering questions, addressing fears, providing reassurance, validating your feelings and concerns

• other tasks as mutually agreed upon

Doula visits are 3 hours long. You can book time with me on a per-visit basis at the hourly rate, or you can purchase a package of hours (scroll down for more details).

*If more complicated breastfeeding issues arise requiring higher level care, you have the option to book additional time with me for a lactation consult. See the Lactation Care section for more details.
